With aurorae, t's always a case of taking a chance. A US friend was visiting at the time, so we decided to drive for a few hours to one of the few clear patches of sky in NZ that night. I even managed to rope another couple of friends along!
Upon arrival, I was worried about the resident wildlife, but the presence of local photographers was reassuring. After some accidental light spraying, we settled in and spent a fun few hours running between cameras, chatting with the enthusiastic group, and all enjoying the night together.
