  • Standing beneath the northern sky near Jam, southern Iran, I watched the International Space Station cross above Mount Padri while Polaris and the surrounding stars traced their timeless circles. To me, the ISS trail is humanity's footprint across the ancient footprints of the stars. The glow of light pollution on the horizon echoes the same idea—another mark of our presence on Earth. Together, they tell a story of how humanity has extended its reach from the ground to the sky. The small gaps in the ISS trail, caused by shutter intervals, were carefully filled to show its true continuous path.
